Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Gamma Chapter

GAMMA HISTORY
The Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered Thursday, February 12, 1914 on the campus of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Originally the Delta Phi Eta Club, it was organized by a group of women with the purpose of fostering a more friendly relationship among the students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In 1914, this club became the Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated due to the innovation, perseverance, and dedication from our eight charter members: Emma Ballinger, Selma Beck, Frances Ellis, Louise Lewis, Vesta Lewis, Ivorine McAllister, Edith Stevens, and Helen Stevens.
As the third chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Gamma Chapter advances the goals of our founders by cultivating and encouraging high scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and friendship among college women, studying and helping alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, maintaining a progressive interest in college life, and to be of service to all mankind.
